My experiences visiting Austin are always visceral. My hands and face stained with bar-b-q sauce, bats flying about, hipsters co-mingling with students co-mingling with with old cowboys, the cold Shiners, the dust, the picnic tables, the river, the relentless heat. All of it, of course, set to live music emanating from the atmosphere 24/7. Primal stuff. Can’t wait to get back. In the meantime, this is my tribute to 12 iconic, historic music venues that supply the soundtrack — and the heartbeat, really — to a truly unique place.
