New York is like an open-air museum for lovers of architectural history. I’ve had the good fortune to explore the city with my camera and sketchpad many times, capturing dozens of classic storefronts. Some were handed down through generations of family, like Russ & Daughters and Gringers & Sons. Some were born of the dreams of immigrants with humble beginnings, like Yonah Schimmel and Julian Baczynsky. New York is really the starting point for modern commercial history, so this Manhattan collection is my own humble attempt to celebrate, preserve and immortalize these rare American treasures.
