New York is like an open-air museum for lovers of architectural history. Though I live on the West Coast, I’ve had the good fortune to explore the city with my camera and sketchpad in search of classic storefronts. Some handed down through generations of family, like Russ & Daughters and Gringers & Sons. Some born of the dreams of immigrants with humble beginnings, like Yonah Schimmel and Julian Baczynsky. This is really the starting point for modern commercial history, so this Manhattan collection is my own humble attempt to celebrate, preserve and immortalize these rare American treasures.
