Growing up around here in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Milwaukee felt like the center of the universe, a global megalopolis on this gigantic ocean called Lake Michigan. Although my vantage point (and address) is different now, home remains home. When I decided to create a Milwaukee set, it had to start with the taverns. The corner bars. The mom-n-pop tap rooms. The culture of brewing runs so deep in Milwaukee, from the early influx of Germans, to the Schlitz, Pabst, and Miller empires, to the name of my favorite baseball team. Taverns aren’t just about drinking—they’re about people. And nowhere is tavern culture as engrained into a city’s DNA as it is in Milwaukee. So I started with a 6-pack of my historic favorites (with more to come). I’ll be donating 5% of the sale price of every print to the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance, which does the great work of advocating for the Cream City’s historic places. Prost!
